2017 Action for Older Persons Lip Sync Challenge
What a fantastic event the Lip Sync Challenge was! We still can’t get over what a huge success it became. As people were leaving we could hear them talking about next year and we already have some new requests for teams! We truly believe the seniors in our area deserve the opportunity to shine.
Although we thoroughly enjoyed every act, our judges, Candace Chapman, Dr. Tonia Thompson, and Rich Wilson carefully assessed the performances and came out with a solid group of winners. (Thank you judges!) In first place for the 2017 Action for Older Persons Lip Sync Challenge were winners Robert Oppici and Jane Page with an excellent version of Annie’s Got Your Gun “Anything You Can Do”. Second place was won by Peg VanFleet who performed Liza Minelli’s “New York, New York.” And in third place was Pat Grant with a very entertaining rendition of “Elvira” by the Oak Ridge Boys. With everyone’s help we’re hoping to make this an annual event, a tradition for seniors and the community to look forward to.

50th Anniversary Soiree
On September 14, 2017 Action for Older Persons celebrated 50 years of providing necessary, high-quality services to seniors and individuals with disabilities in communities across the Southern Tier. AOP was established by the former Committee on Aging of the Broome County Social Planning Council and the Southern Tier Leadership Council, a group of senior citizens and retiree organizations. Who would have known their efforts would develop an agency that is still having a positive impact on the community today?
We would like to thank all of those who attended the 50th Anniversary Soiree on September 14th. A special Thank You goes to NYS Senator Fred Akshar for present AOP with a Proclamation in recognition of this meaningful anniversary and to Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, our keynote speaker, who also provided AOP with a citation recognizing the many accomplishments of the organization.
